Citta della Pieve is a beautiful medieval hill town in Umbria in Central Italy. This image shows a view down through a dark alleyway under a stone archway. We look through to the bright sunshine beyond. The sun highlights the old stone walls and shuttered windows. There is a second archway that provides a walk through between doorways. Through that you can see down to the street beyond. So we look from the dark shade of one arch to a second arch highlighted in the bright sunlight.
About Citta della Pieve
Citta della Pieve is famous for the local production of red terracotta bricks that are evident in the architecture of the town. Set high on a hill side, the town benefits from cool breezes during the hot summers but is also quite cold in the winter.
The main car parks are situated outside the town walls. Find a space and walk through one of the beautiful archways in the town walls. Immediately you find beautiful cobbled streets and wonderful architecture. As you walk through the town there are an endless narrow passageways and connecting streets, many with little or no vehicular traffic. It really is a lovely place to wander around. You can buy souvenirs and local produce from the many quaint shops. There are also bars/cafes where you can rest your feet, drink a cappuccino or beer and watch the world walk past your table.
Throughout the year, Citta della Pieve has various festivals including one celebrating, saffron, grown locally. The town also participates in Umbria Jazz. This is an annual event with late warm evenings listening to jazz under the Italian night sky.
