Cuba is filled with mountains and palm trees. One of the best views is this landscape along the road between Trinidad and Playa Ancon. ‘Cuban Landscape’ is a popular image, receiving eight group features on Fine Art America and included in three fine art exhibitions.
Trinidad is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the center of the island, located in the province of Sancti Spíritus. Like most colonial towns, Trinidad is gorgeous with brightly colored buildings and cobblestone streets. While nearby Playa Ancon is a postcard perfect beach on the Caribbean Sea and home to wonderful beach resorts.
Cuba is a favorite travel destination for Europeans and Canadians. Due to recent changes more and more U.S. travelers are discovering the beauty of the island. The Spring weather is perfect. Views of palm trees and distant mountains entice visitors. So, tourists chose cars, horses, and bicycles to explore the area. At the end of the day, they enjoy pampering at nearby beach resorts while they relax to the sounds of Salsa music.

May Day Fair In Seville, Spain
This is a digital paint of an original photograph I took on the 1st of May, while we were traveling in Seville, Spain
Yes, there is a tradition in Europe to celebrate the first day of May as the International Worker’s Day (also known as May Day).
May Day
If you live in Europe you certainly know about this, but you may not know that this is actually coming from the USA… On the other hand, Labour Day in North America (USA and Canada) is celebrated on the first Monday in September.
As I’m originally coming from Eastern Europe (one of the former socialist countries), I used to know this as a celebration of the “International Solidarity of Workers”. Since we didn’t have access to much information about the outside world, I thoroughly thought it was happening only there, as a communism type of things… 🙂
Living in Canada for many years I had completely forgotten about this.
My Day celebration in Seville, Spain
I was extremely surprised to see it happening in Seville, when I visited Spain.
My first reaction was of amazement: people of all ages were happily participating in it without being obliged to do it … I smiled 🙂
Most of the people where dressed in traditional costumes; and the women were wearing the famous Flamenco dresses on all colors. – How beautiful!
In the streets of Seville we could see the well known Andalusian horses. Ornamented with flowers they were pulling classic chariots with people going to the fair…
They looked so picturesque, that I decided to digitally paint the image 🙂

Pai Sopra is located on Lake Garda in Italy. The small village has approx. 200 inhabitants. This pictorial uphill village lies at the eastern shore of Lake Garda. Pai Sopra is a typical old italian village with stone houses and a romantic church.
Lake Garda (Italian: Lago di Garda)
Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. It is not far away from Lake Como. This is the place where George Clooney has his summer residence. Obviously, the presence of Clooney brought a little of hustle to Lake Como. The region has suddenly become a hot spot for an army of paparazzi. So Lake Garda and Lake Como are popular holiday location in northern Italy. Lake Garda lies about halfway between Brescia and Verona and between Venice and Milan. This beautiful area is situated on the edge of the Dolomites. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last Ice Age.
Your Holidays in Northern Italy
Northern Italy is a beautiful place for your holidays. Because you have everything in close distance. You can make a one day trip to Switzerland. Music lovers will spend a joyful evening at the opera of Verona. And last but not least you can spend a lot of money in the trendy boutiques in Milan. For sure there you will find the latest italian fashion hype from Armani or other famous designers. Forget your diet whilst you are in Italy and enjoy the delicious pasta dishes.
Pai Sopra: My Painting Approach
My watercolor paintings are done in a semi-abstract approach. That is the reason why I change the local color into powerful tones and shades of atmospheric light. Thus the painting depicts a dreamy world of wonderful holidays. Also see my other posts. Greece – Santorini The Island For honeymooners and Provence France – Old Village of Gordes. Uberlingen Roofs Germany (Überlingen in German)
When traveling and wandering the streets of a city or town, I like to look up to see roofs, windows, towers and all kinds of architectural elements. People living in an urban area for many years usually pass in a hurry ignoring things that only tourists look at… what a miss!
The German spirit in architecture
Überlingen is a beautiful historic city on Lake Constance (Bodensee), Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. It dates back to Roman time. During the history many architectural European styles have been developed from Roman, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, to Classic and Modern.
However, not only in this city, but throughout the whole country, there is something specific. That thing tells you that you are in Germany and not anywhere else. This comes from the local master architects, sculptors, craftsmen and German artists – well known for their talent.
My photo shows the clock tower of the Birnau church – one of the most beautiful pilgrimage church in Baden-Wurttemberg, raising above the Uberlingen roofs. The church has a Baroque architecture, BTW.

Oia Santorini Greece: Watercolor Painting By Sabina von Arx

The island of Santorini
Oia is located on the greek island of Santorini. The early morning sunrise reflects the beautiful warm colors of the aegean sea. Oia is a scenic village on the north west edge of the Santorini island. It extends for almost 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) along the northern edge of the caldera that forms the island of Santorini. The village is located at a height of between 70 and 100 metres (230 and 330 ft) above sea level. Oia is built on the steep slope of the caldera. Houses and restaurants are built nicely into niches carved into the rocks. And most of all Santorini is a “in” place for honeymooners. So for newly weds there is no better place to go to. Because on this greek island you find everything for happiness! A deep blue sea, wonderful sunsets, delicious greek food and charming white hotels built into the rocks.
Sunrises and Sunsets over Oia
In Oia on Santorini there are narrow passageways and a central square. The sun light hours in this village are extremly long. Therefore Santorini is famous for it’s sunrises and sunsets. The idyllic villages have a complex of white washed, blue domed churches and charming, traditional Cycladic houses. You will love the cave houses that are carved into the rock face on top of the cliff. Oia is set in a location which provides excellent views of the sunset over the caldera.
My Artistic Approach
I do chose a semi-abstract approach for my watercolor paintings. Therefore I change the local color to powerful tones and shades of atmospheric light. So the painting depicts a dreamy world of wonderful holidays. Also see my other Posts with paintings from Europe Provence France – Old Village of Gordes and Italy – Pai Sopra on Lake Garda. The Provence – Ultimate Place for Painters and Photographers
Provence France an early morning sunrise in the french village of Gordes. One of the most picturesque landscapes of Europe. The Provence has hosted many famous artists among them Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Cézanne. Standing on the edge of the plateau of Vaucluse, Gordes is one of the “in” villages of Luberon where many movies stars and artists have made their home. Beautiful lavender and sunflower fields as well as the pictorial uphill villages are an endless inspiration to artists. You reach the wonderful old villages by taking the plane or the high speed train (TGV) from Paris to Avignon. If you rent a car then you have endless possibilities to visit the old villages. There you can buy souvenirs on the colorful markets or just sit in one of the many outdoor cafés and enjoy the scenery.

Panoramic View Of Colorful Hillside Homes In Guanajuato Mexico
UNESCO World Heritage city of Guanajuato, Mexico. Guanajuato is a beautiful mountain colonial town in central Mexico. The name of the city means “Place of Frogs” in the local indigenous language and therefore the frog is the city’s official pet. Many tourists and locals consider this city to be the most beautiful in Mexico. It used to be a major silver mining town, and many of the mines are still active. The city is built on very hilly ground, so virtually every point in the city is on a slant. The city has a network of underground tunnels that serve as roads making this place really unique in the world.
