Jellyfish floating – digital art
This is a Jellyfish floating underwater in the Atlantic ocean on the Canadian coast. I took the photo from a deck, while waiting for the ferry between Nova Scotia and Newfoudland to come, and because it was a little blurred, I digitally enhanced it. I also cropped it a lot for a close-up on the creature, so the art print is not very big, but it still shows well above a counter, or on other home decor items 🙂 Click on it for more info:

The Golden Eiffel Tower Paris Las Vegas
Eiffel Tower Paris Las Vegas is a landmark of the “Sin City” of Americas. I have seen the real Eiffel Tower in Paris, many, many years ago (no photos). However, even if it’s only half-size, the view of this replica in this famous city of Nevada, made my pulse going up 🙂
It is impressive. Actually, the whole complex of Paris Hotel and Casino is a wonderful unique reproduction of the Parisian lifestyle and architecture.
I took it in front of the hotel at springtime, with cherry blossoms in the foreground, for a more European feeling… I also liked the contrast between the softness of the delicate white flowers and the still structure of the tower. They are creating some interesting patterns, I think… Do your see them?
The picture has been featured in the “Travel Art” group at Fine Art America and it’s available as art print for wall and home decor. Click on it for info:

FOWC with Fandango — Contrast | Lens-Artist Photo Challenge: Look Up

Street photography can be whatever you want it to be. It can be dark and moody, fun, celebratory, sexy, or exciting. It does not matter what the mood is, as long as it tells a story. A story that draws us in and makes us want to go there. Or maybe just know more about that place or the people in it. In the past when I’ve traveled, I have gotten annoyed that I couldn’t get a photo of that cool historic building without all the other tourists. Then I realized that part of what makes those places great are those people. Whether it’s people who come from all over the world to see, learn, and celebrate the history and culture of a person or place or just the locals trying to get from point a to point b, there’s a story there.
Wake up!
Get up early and hit the streets. Most of the tourists are sleeping in, so the streets are mostly empty except for locals. It’s a great time to meet some of the locals and see some landmarks without the masses.

Standing Out
How do you take an image that stands out from the ones in the tourism guide or the same one that 50,000 other people probably took that day? First, be patient. There will, at some point be a break in the crowd or wait for something that’s happening in that crowd that stands out. Maybe it’s a crowd full of dark, somber colors, but then someone with a red jacket or dress shows up. Use that to your advantage. Second, look around you. Everyone else is taking photos of the front of the building or whatever the tour guide is pointing out. Look up, look down, look behind you. Find something different.

Portofino Italy
This absolutely magnificent resort town is on the Italian Riviera. – A get-away for the rich and famous and for upscale tourists alike. It is quiet, laid back, architecturally stunning and has a beautiful harbor full of all sorts of boats.
There are shops, restaurants, coffee houses and walking trails for the more adventurous. Cars are not allowed within the harbor area, so it is truly a secluded, very restful environment. Portofino is a must stop on any extended trip to Italy.
The picture is also available as art print for wall and home decor. Click on it for more options
Here bellow you can see two more versions of the same view.

El Cortez Hotel Las Vegas is situated on Fremont Street East District.
It stands right in front of the famous red shoe and the neon dancing lady, which I believe were there on Fremont street since the beginning of the times.
The new mural in retro style, colors and art decoration keep the nostalgia of the old great times of the the city, especially downtown.
You can see, feel and even smell the authenticity of this place once you step inside the casino.
… everything from gambling machines, tables, chairs and decorations look like they were in the past – probably this is how it always was.

In central Cuba, nearby Trinidad are the tourist resorts of Playa Ancón. After the sun sets across the Caribbean Sea, the nightly cabaret show commences to the sound of breaking waves and Cuban rhythms. The lovely young ladies add color to the visitor’s experience as they earn money for their extended families. The vibrant colors of their garments reflect their character.
Lonely Planet’s description is on point. “A ribbon of white beach on Sancti Spíritus’ iridescent Caribbean shoreline, Playa Ancón is often considered as the finest arc of sand on Cuba’s south coast… While it can’t compete with the north-coast giants of Varadero, Cayo Coco and Guardalavaca, Ancón has one trump card: Trinidad, Latin America’s sparkling colonial diamond, lies just 12km [7.5 mi] to the north.”
And so, we spent our days exploring Trinidad and relaxed at one of the all-inclusive resorts of Playa Ancón in the evenings. It was heaven! Balancing artistic endeavors with rest was a blessed endeavor. Consequently, the people and colors of Cuba have left a permanent mark on my heart. As time and distance pass the images become impressions, like watercolor paintings in the mind’s eye. These are but a few of the colorful images that compose the Cuban tapestry from rural areas to the cities. imagine these images in your home or office – they would be stunning!

I am an avid traveler and an artist. While I love straight (not heavily retouched) photos, I do sometimes feel I’m taking the same photo over and over. When that happens, I like to challenge myself to try something different. Travel maps are a good way for me to combine my love of photography, travel, and maps at the same time creating something unique.
Travel Maps
In 2016, I traveled to Cuba. It changed my life in many ways. But we are talking about photography and creativity here, so let’s stay on track! As I was working the hundreds of images I had taken, I realized that many of them looked exactly like the images everyone else took. I wanted to change them up and do something different. I also love old maps. I always think of treasure and adventure when I see a map with age spots and faded lettering. Thus, my travel maps were born. Below find an early map and a more recent one. Each one gets better. But the first have a special place in my heart.

I find my maps to be a great way for me to combine my love of photography, travel, and maps. Each travel map is unique, creating a feeling of nostalgia using modern images and vintage maps.
I have created travel maps from Cuba, the British Isles, Central Europe, and the United States. To see all of my travel maps, visit https://1-sharon-popek.pixels.com/

Painting of the old Windmills on Mykonos Island by Sabina von Arx
Ancient Windmills of Mykonos from the 16th Century
The Mykonos windmills are an iconic feature of the Greek island of Mykonos. The island is one of the Cyclades islands, with its neighbour Delos in the Aegean Sea. Tourists quickly find out that the windmills can be seen from every point of the village. Most windmills face towards the North where the island’s climate sources its strongest winds over the largest part of the year. altogether there are 16 windmills on Mykonos of which seven are positioned on the landmark hill in Chora. Most of them were built by the Venetians in the 16th century. They were primarily used to mill wheat. The architecture of each of them is similar. That means all have a round shape, white colour and a pointed roof and very small windows. Such windmills are found on almost all Cyclades islands.
My Painting Approach
For my watercolor paintings I chose a semi-abstract approach. Therefore I change the local color to powerful tones and shades of atmospheric light. Thus the painting depicts a dreamy world of wonderful holidays. See my other Posts for paintings from Europe Greece – Santorini The Island For Honeymooners and Italy – Pai Sopra on Lake Garda a romantic place to visit. Art Prints on paper and canvas prints of the ancient windmills are available in different sizes and qualities. The wall between USA and Mexico is becoming a famous landmark of Americas 🙂
I’m not involved in politics in any kind of way. I’m just an amateur photographer and because this is a “hot” subject these days, I thought to take a shot if it 🙂 The picture shows the border wall between USA and Mexico in Douglas, Arizona.
*Warning, just in case…: There are powerful lampposts everywhere along the wall! 😉
Going in Mexico for shopping
We spent a few winter months in Southern Arizona, near Bisbee. About two times a month we went to Agua Prieta, Mexico to buy cheaper things like cigarettes, Tequila, and some other goodies… If you want to do the same, check this link for Prohibited and Restricted Items to bring back from Mexico.
BTW: when you go there, the best place for shopping is “Plaza Ley”. – Ley is a nice supermarket Walmart style with everything you need. After you cross the border you can take a taxi to go there. – It is not a good idea to drive without Mexican insurance. The cost of the cab is 50 pesos which is about $2-3 USD
* While at the supermarket you can use your debit/credit card, but for the taxi. It’s a good idea to have some cash. – You can change money in Douglas.
The fence wall between USA and Mexico in Douglas is not new, but part of a series of fences along the USA-Mexico border, dating back to 1994. – Read more on Mexico–United States barrier

Hard Rock Cafe Cancun
The Hard Rock Cafe in Cancun, Mexico is a popular casual cafe restaurant in the well known complex “Forum by the Sea” and it is right on the beach. Here you can dine while looking at the blue water of the Caribbean sea. While having our lunch there, I was attracted by this beautiful stained glass window, the background of the live music stage.
This picture is available in many formats like wall prints, throw pillows, tote bags and many more at Fine Art America. However, I never thought that somebody will buy a beach towel with this subject, ha, ha 🙂
Incredible but true, I just sold a copy of this Hard Rock Cafe Cancun, stained glass window as a beach towel! – What a creative idea! 🙂 – Thank you buyer from Sicklerville, NJ!
Here is what this stained glass window looks like as a framed wall print. Click on it to see the options.
* The Watermark does not appear on the print.
